Welcome to the world of Alex H Duncan. His music is from a different universe, of a non-human origin. Another being, another species deciding on the pitch, tempo, cadences, and musical structures. Alex uses devices to collect midi data from trees, plants, fungi and then plugs this data into sound generators and synthesisers. Alex unveils a truth about our natural world and its unheard dialect. Alex reveals nature as a guide and collaborator creating music that is profound and moving.
“Why ‘The Path’? I have been making music from data collected in nature for more than four years. Its patterns, cadences and musical structures fill me with awe and delight. Endlessly, I connect to deep mycelium networks or mighty oaks and smile. It is amazing. But, like any music full of tonal changes and unusual time signatures, it takes hours of listening to fall into those rhythms and melodies. This new work is an attempt to lead you to those musical places, gently removing most of the human elements. Mycelium data collected from the earth runs continuously through the album with above ground data providing points of change along the journey. The human elements I have included are an attempt to clear path through this woodland and across these cliffs. This place is wonderful, let’s not fuck this up.
Follow the path. It could be fun”.
